Lackluster service...food was marginal at best (lukewarm and under-seasoned). Two of my four scallops were not properly cleaned (tough membrane still attached - pretty disgusting). The chef's response to my critique was startling: "come back again and order the same plate, if it's not correct that time let us know sooner and we'll correct it." Really? Come back again? No way...I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We tried T.O.T.C for the first time last week. Fantastic! The atmosphere in the dining room was very nice and the food was excellent and beautifully presented. Dinner is more of an event than a quick in and out so plan accordingly. I loved that we could really take our time and enjoy each course and our wine (bring your own-a favorite detail of mine). Personally I would place T.O.T.C. at the level of our nicest Helena restaurants, places like Lucca's and On Broadway and above Silver Star as the value is much better at T.O.T.C. One suggestion for management. The bathrooms need to be spiffed up a bit. However, I did get the impression that they are a work in progress so I'm sure they will be up to the standard of the fine food being offered very soon. I only mention this because I wouldn't want anyone to be turned off by something as easily remedied as a bathroom. As the focus at T.O.T.C. is obviously fine food, I just want to make sure that the bathrooms don't slip through the cracks.

Amazing amazing food and service! The owner is the chef as well. Does it all on his own- from the appetizers to the dessert! Highly recommend!

Fine dining at a fair price in Helena Montana! Color me impressed! This is a town where it seems most dining options include a casino. But under the Montana sky shines this little star of culinary arts. At first when the waitress/hostess asked if I had a reservation I almost laughed as they were almost empty. The tasteful but basic decor was pleasant but didn't prepare me for the food. I had the roasted chicken and it was AMAZING! Everything I saw come out of the kitchen convinced me that this is THE place to dine in Helena!

A hidden gem in East Helena. Taste of the City rivals Helena's nicer restaurants such as Lucca's, Mediterranean Grill, etc. in taste and quality without costing near as much. BYOB so bring your own wine. They will cork it and pour it for you. Their steaks/filet is fantastic, scallops were delicious too. Everything I've tried has far exceeded expectations. If you're local and you haven't tried it you're missing out!

This place is fantastic and quite possibly produced the best meal I've had in the valley. I had a special and the person I went with had the Diver Scallops. Both were excellent, but the scallops may be the best thing on the menu. Everything that came out of the kitchen caught my eye in the way it was presented and everything looked like it tasted just as good. Don't let the outside fool you (it doesn't look like a place that would serve fine food) it's so worth the try. I'll be back there soon.

I don't get it- soooo disappointed! first we're greeted by the hostess who was somewhat bothered that we didn't call for a reservation- the place was EMPTY! it was also cold- they had a little free standing heater going- really??!! food was marginal and expensive- if they want to tout themselves as an upscale place, they better live up to it- they didn't- to quote the one star rating: "Eek! Methinks not!"

We came to this place because of the reviews, we were directed to go sit. We were not sat like a restaurant of this price range would indicate, or asked if we wanted something to drink. I already knew that it was bring your own wine or beer so I anticipated a soft drink or ice tea, was only offered water. Before we even received our water we were asked if we are ready to order. We both ordered the Oscar fillet mignon(lobster stuffed fillet) and goat cheese bread for an appetizer. The goat cheese bread was good, the fillet was cold!!! The potato lasagna that they cook was cold, the fillet tasted like it had been under the heat lamp for a while, no flavor to the food. I guess this was an off night for this crew. I might try it again but that is a big might. Not worth $82 for the service and quality of food that was brought out!

This restaurant was amazing! It looks like a old home, very quaint with a few tables. We made a reservation and the food was great! My husband loves lamb so he ordered that and I had a ribeye steak. They were both fantastic! They were served with cheddar jalapeno grits and a twiced baked potato! We finished the meal with cheesecake for dessert! :) You can bring your own wine in too which is great and saves you $$. :) We were very impressed and would go again tomorrow! ;) Super little restaurant in this small town.

Amazing, small, modern, slightly Asian decor. Call for a reservation, since it is small. Bring your own wine. Food is inventive and wonderful. I had a nice simple salad for first course. But my wife had a watermelon gazpacho, which was much better than my salad. The watermelon came through nicely with a light peppery bite, very refreshing. Marilyn had salmon en croute. Some bites the salmon was a bit over done other bites were perfect. Topped with a haystack of potatoes that looked like brown hair. Came with a dill mayonnaise that had only one problem, she wanted more of it. Served on a cross hatch of asparagus. Since some bites of the salmon was over done this dish only gets four stars. I had an eggplant dish that was eggplant, mozzarella, fresh tomato stacked over wilted greens with a basil pesto and a tomato reduction on the side. It was really good to have all three ways, by itself, with the pesto, and with the reduction. Each wonderful in its own way. Desert was a chocolate cake, but more like a layered ganache more than cake. Seemed flour less with semisweet dark chocolate flavor. Coffee a bit on the weak side, but smooth. Service friendly, but not intrusive. Nice pace to the meal. It was not busy so we got to visit with the chef. If you are a local please eat here, we want it to still be here, when we visit again.

Ate at Taste for the first time last week, while travelling thru from Colorado. It was wonderful . Chef Jerry is quite a chef! Creative, friendly -- we talked for a few minutes on a quiet night -- and an artiste! Exellent presentation! The food looked gorgeous on the plate. Very small place, simple but elegant t decor -- almost Asian. Could use good quality wine glasses; Taste's were what I call "jelly glasses" -- cheap, thick glass, tiny capacity, jelly glass rim. I understand why he doesn't -- you bring your own wine so they don't get any of the usual mark up from wine service/pricing. But good quality glasses would help confirm the overall quality of the place, so it might be worth doing anyhow. Friendly not very knowledgeable server -- she checked with the Chef to answer our questions about the menu so that was okay. Excellent food -- watermelon gazpacho, salmon in pastry, chocolate ganache cake all excellent. Very reasonable prices considering the quality. I'd go back often just to see what he's doing if I lived in Helena!!! The menu is seasonable and will vary regularly, I understand. Please patronize this great restaurant if you live in the area -- it's unusual, distinctive, fine quality, and fun. Easy to find and only a few miles from Helena proper. We hope to return in a year or two at the most and really hope to find Taste still thriving. It's "slow food" at it's best!

A HUGE disappointment!! 55 minute ticket time with only 4 tables waiting and the food was marginal at best. The pasta was over cooked, the chicken breast was dry and flavorless and the rice was so dry as if it were yesterday's leftover and was seasoned so strongly with clove that it overwhelmed the entire meal. No where near Helena's finest and certainly not on the same caliber as any restaurant on the east coast. I've had better food at chain restaurants.
